Mauro Nespoli was born on November
22nd, 1987 in Voghera (Pavia), the place where he has always
lived.
He came across archery when he was nine, in July 1997, while
he was on holiday with his family in Aprica (Sondrio).
“I was on holiday with my parents when I saw an archery
field behind the hotel. I had never seen archers before and...
it was love at first sight!” In the August of the same
year (1997) he met Luciano Malovini, who was at that time
in the Paralympic Italian National Team. Luciano immediately
became Mauro’s personal coach.
Luciano won several important medals, including:
1989 - Helsinki European Championship - Gold Team medal and
4th Individual place.
1990 - Hassen European Championship - Gold Team and Gold Individual
medals.
1992 - Barcelona Paralympic Games - Silver Team medal
1993 - Barcelona European Championship - Silver Team and Silver
Individual medals.
1996 - Atlanta Paralympic Games - Silver Team and Silver Individual
medals.
Later on, Mauro joined the Italian Olympic Team and met the
coach Filippo Clini.
Filippo himself won some international medals, including:
1991 - Sandefijord World Championship – Gold Team medal
and Silver Individual medal
1996 – Valux en Velin World Championship – Gold
Team medal and Bronze Individual medal
1997 - Istanbul World Championship – Team Bronze medal
“Luciano is a great person and a ‘teacher of
life’. Every day he transmits me the most important
values, both in life and sport. Filippo is a well-prepared
coach. He’s been following me since I joined the National
Team. In two words? They are great coaches and wonderful friends!”
Mauro and his Studies
Despite his agonistic commitments, Mauro was able to achieve
excellent results in his studies, from secondary school until
high school graduation. He got his Diploma in 2006, with grade
of 90/100.
He is now attending the Laurea degree course of ‘Ingegneria
Informatica’ (Computer Engineering) at Università
degli Studi di Pavia.

“My motivation in everyday life, in study and sport
is trying to knock down the mental barriers, investigate and
overcome my limits. I’m working hard to reach the capability
to express myself at best!”
Interests and Hobbies
Besides university and archery, Mauro has many
interests including:
- reading and collecting books about the Middle Age;
- collecting coins;
- playing soccer;
- walking in the mountains;
- nature photography;
- Italian cuisine.
In addition, Mauro likes teaching archery to the children
who approach this wonderful discipline for the first time.
“I think I am lucky because I had the opportunity to
choose an activity that I love so much. I’m sure that
my studies and this sport will allow me to improve the right
skills to help the others”.
